Ettore Sottsass
Ettore Sottsass was a leading designer and architect of the late 20th century. His bold, colorful Postmodern aesthetic influenced global design in furniture, interiors, and objects.
From 1958, Sottsass’s 20-year partnership with Olivetti produced diverse, innovative products. His designs added color and informality to gray office environments, including the Elea 9003 calculator and the iconic red Valentine typewriter of 1969.
Sottsass explored new visual languages, collaborating with artists like Alessandro Mendini and Andrea Branzi. This journey led to the Memphis collective, whose radical designs gained global recognition and exhibitions.
Sottsass’s work is in the permanent collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Los Angeles County Museum.
