Joe Colombo

Joe Colombo (1930-1971) was one of the most important Italian designers of his time. His creations seem straight out of a James Bond film. They are characteristic of the sixties’ madness, yet functional with remarkable shapes.

Thanks to plastic’s pliability, the plastic furniture era began in the 1960s—chairs, lamps, ashtrays, trolleys, and tables in bright colors like orange and green. The main representatives of this pop art-inspired design are Verner Panton and Joe Colombo. Colombo quickly created numerous products that found their way into living rooms and offices worldwide.

He designed for Alessi, Bieffe, Boffi, Flexform, Oluce, and Kartell.

His work is featured in the Stedelijk in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
