Marianne Brandt
Marianne Brandt (1893–1983) was a pioneering designer and key figure of the Bauhaus movement. At 31, she joined the Bauhaus school in Weimar in 1924, where her innovative approach quickly gained recognition. Between 1924 and 1929, Brandt created designs that have become enduring icons of Bauhaus design, including her famous teapot and sieve from 1924.
Her work is celebrated for its minimalist aesthetics, functional elegance, and innovative use of materials like metal. Brandt’s creations continue to influence contemporary design and are prized in museum collections worldwide, including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Stedelijk Museum. She remains a symbol of the Bauhaus ethos, blending art, craftsmanship, and utility to create timeless objects that transcend their era and inspire future generations of designers.
